repanda_kifu_yew

In my opinion the "Kifu"-class (between 8 and 12 inches height) is an underestimated Bonsai-format.

I figured it ideal for me, since i had this disc prolaps.

I used to dig, collect and therefore carry heavy dicidous yamadories.

Now i am buying raw-material from nurseries mostly.

Anyway ... ,

here comes my second kifu-yew.

A repanda-variety of taxus baccata two years under my control.

update_kifu_yew

Still under structural construction. Two branches less, two tiny jins more ...

Just for the record ...

juniperus_procumbens_raw

'Found this tree highly neglected in a nursery.

The tree started to build compost-pockets within the branch-bases.

Such was the sinking in oblivion ..Undescribably ...

Nonetheless, the Junipers comes with some bonsai-features already.

'Like the bark and the green parts close to the trunc ...

I consider that good raw-material ...

bye_bye_amarican_girl

Well, the heavy Prunus Serotina decided to leave me.

She is heading for W. P.'s garden.

And again no hard feelings. I am just glad that she found her perfect destination.

The new owner can do more for this specimen than i ever could.

By the way, can anybody help to get the tree from Hamburg to Munich?

heavy_campestre_update

I hardly dare to show this tree ...

It had been a very bad season for this particular specimen

(storm-damage, watering-issues e,t,c, ...)

I underestimated the difficulty of designig A. campestre.

' Shortened the tree a bit.

At least the lower branches have increased in diameter ...

The top will will certainly recover very quickly ... So just for the record :

visit_of_mrs._Heike_vanGunst

Today i had the great honor, to have Mrs. Heike van Gunst being

a guest in my humble garden.

Heike really is famous among the bonsai-community!

She was born in 1966 and was very much interested in plants

from early childhood on.

At age 13 she saw a bonsai tree for the first time and began to

gather experience in 1981 with seedlings and a first bonsai book.

At first she learned from books, magazines and her own experiments,

later she learned more in a local club and in workshops with

several teachers.

The former IT consultant works for the Bonsai Art

magazine since 2013 and since 2016 she is the chief editor.

She translates bonsai books and bonsai demonstrations and travels

to bonsai events in Germany and abroad.

thuja_design_evolution

An update of my "Abor Vitae", Thuja Occidentales, Eastern white cedar ....

Slowly, very slowly i am approaching my design-vision ...

If you want to obtain such raw-material, than ask the owner of your local

garbage-dump.

Each spring and autumn  a whole lotta stumps will be tossed out of the gardens

in your  neighborhood ... So simple is that ...  (Just an example ...)

The rest is gentle work with the creature in empathy and passion for the wonder of creation ...

strange_prunus_cerasifera

This tree has got totally different stories or characters depending on the viewing-sites.

No other tree-design in my collection shows this different statements so dramatically.

A strange design, maybe i failed  and spoiled the tree-design, i can not exclude this possiblity,

But anyway,  the story of this Prunus will continue either way...

Personally i like to think about which viewing-site is best ..

linden_stump_designed

Couldn't wait untill weekend.

The tree now shorter and denser.

And you all were right: Technically this Linden is rather a stump than a clump.

The apex is a bit weak, but will improve due to the apical-dominance of deciduous trees.

Not the best design yet, but give her another five years ...

update_linden_clump

Pictures "naked" without leafes, just before the new styling-session ...

'Couldn't finish the tree today. The weekend will bring on a freshly designed linden_clump ...

a_simple_thuja_occidentalis

In the sense of the thread-title,
a 4,99 € tree at the very beginning-stage of its development.
About 25 cm high above soil-level.
Two years under my control.
Nottin special buta ...
i am a fool for eastern white cedar, can't help it ...

update_small_leaved_prunus

I think the Prunus cerasifera is doing well.
Sorry for the helmet-shaped crown-design.
I will fix that in the near future, the green parts of the composition are too
small anyway ...

update_lindenclump

A picture as of today just for the record.
In spring there is a word in German to discribe the colouration: "lindgrün".
'Could be translated as "linden-green".
This fesh green-hue will turn to a much darker one very soon.
What a pitty, but such is springtime ...

the_vietnamese_way

... to produce bonsai-pots.
This was my first attempt to create a training-pot
using cement-mortar like it is utilized in Vietnam.
Maybe I will continue this method, if the result is reasonably fine.
Tomorrow the pot will be seperated from the construction-platform.
If it's okay, I will report.

tortured_trees_?

Dear blog-vievers ...

Today, as an exception, an issue on my own behalf.

Due to current responses (+ outside this blog),
there is something I have to point out clearly!

When I am saying
(especially in my raw-material-development-postings) :

"... find the smallest tree ... "

I am meaning:

" ... Reduce the tree to the "less is more"-state of design,
on wich health and energy of the tree is in n o  w a y endangered !!! ... "

For me, this basic-requirement is such a matter of course,
that i did not metion it.

Juniperus_communis_#1

On Monday this week I was lucky enough to find this Juniperus Communis in a small nursery.

The truncline showed a Crossing of two branches and the straight trunc was a bit boring,
So a drastic decision according to the basic design had to be made.

I decided to use the left branch wich has almost  the dimensions of a subtrunc.
So here we go ... The raw-material after the first cut.

The first part of the new design. Heavy bendings and anchoring on the iron-bar  and trunc.
The bendings and primary wiring will be continued next week, after the first part has set.

update_juniperius_chinensis_blaauwes

The Juniper freshly edited,
with the green closer to the trunc. Which front-view is best?

Sunday 26 January 2020

field_maple_wired

The tree more clear now after the designing session. There were simply to much branches and twigs.
Now the branches for the structural composition of this Acer are more or less set.
And again for my liking the overall silhoutte comes too triangularly,
but this is a necessary intermediat stadium to thicken the lower branches in comparison to
the upper ones. Once this relation appears reasonably, I will come back to a more naturalistic
tree-design.
And sorry, the wiring is not elegant right now. I ran out of some wire-gauges ...

Look, how ugly the original raw-material had beeen ...

Tuesday 21 January 2020

update_repanda_yew

The branches had fairly thickened this growing period.
Nevertheless they have to be styled again to avoid a boring straight
outcome.
The green of the top has to increase considerably.

update_curly_yew

Update of the little, curly Taxus baccata.
This photo is of January 2016. Diameter of the "trunc" roughly 0,34 in.
Not even the diameter of a regular pencil.

The Yew had been into field-culture for three years.
Pictures of the tree as of today ...
